About

Art has always been a constant companion. Though I do not know how it first began, I cannot remember a time when art was not a part of my life. If I was not scribbling or doodling along the margins of a notebook or on a scrap of paper, I was getting lost in the colorful pages of art books or dreaming about future art projects.

Nowadays, instead of just doodling, I also enjoy painting. I love watercolors in particular, but sometimes wander off to play with collage or acrylics for their texture and depth. Writing and creating wearable pieces with beads and fabric also fuels my imagination and I enjoy spending time with them as well.

While these are all mostly solitary pursuits, it is nice to get together with friends and share our different art projects, talk about the process or exchange constructive ideas. I would like to recreate that here, like visiting a friend, relaxed, maybe pulling up a chair and just hanging out for a bit.

In the middle of the Pacific, coconut trees sway to the song of trade winds while an island Moon rises in the night sky. The sound of voices can be heard as if carried on the breeze, voices talking about art, inspiration and following a creative life.

Hello, my name is Haunani, welcome to my blog.

What a lovely thing to say and what an honor. I am feeling very humbled and bashful at the prospect. Honestly, I have been quite inspired by your work and others that I have met via your site. It has not only motivated me to get my travel sets back out on to my table, but through the shared art and conversation I have been reminded of the pleasure to be found in ‘doodlewashing’ life’s passing scenery. Let’s chat ๐Ÿ˜€ and you can tell me what you need. (What a great excuse to hang out at a cafe and stare at people….joking ;D)

You’re great! I love your artworks. Art has always been my constant companion too. I used to express my emotions thru my drawings and paintings. But unlike you, i am not a professional artist. I’m just a self-proclaimed hobbyist.

Thank you for such a nice comment. I visited your site, you have such lovely drawings! It does not really matter what label we have, hobbyist, professional, student….so long as we love art and enjoy the making of art, at the very core I believe that is what counts. Keep up the lovely work, peace!

Hi Haunani. Your work is absolutely stunning! I had the pleasure of visiting the islands back in 2005. They are a special and beautiful part of our planet. I’m an old guy who started out with water color when I was a young buck. Love that medium. After 30 or so years of not painting I am now back into it as of this year 2016. The difference is I paint on wood canvases that I make myself and I am using acrylic. Hope you take a peek at my blog to see what I am talking about. Painting is therapy for me, and I am so glad I started again after a long absence. Again, I am so impressed with what you do. Take care….Kevin

Thank you Keven for such kind words about my art and the islands. It is wonderful that you have found you way back to the brush, and that you paint on a wood canvase sounds amazing. I am so glad you stopped by for a visit, I will definitely drop by your site for a visit soon. Acrylics are a wonderful medium and I love seeing how folks use it on their creative journeys. Take care, aloha a hui hou!
